Post 10: English lenguage challenges

Hi everyone! Last post! Today I`m going to write the last post about English lenguage challenges. This is for English IV, a CFG (general formation courses), the last level which set us in a intermediate level of English. I do like English and hopefully in the future I will travel a lot so it would be a good tool, but I`m truly dissatisfied about the schedule and the place where we have classes.

Awful idea having classes on lunch time in a -1 floor full of computers. English should have a mandatory place at the program, so we could learn into a more friendly class with better times. I also think we should talk more; a lot of times we do exercises or write on our blogs which I can also do from my home. 5 years ago I took an English course on Tronwell, and I used to think I was at intermediate level. But I`m clearly rusty, that`s why I want to speak more. Even though I feel like I can communicate with another person, which I do when I get into a foreign, there is always a lot to improve, specially with grammar. For me, English requires thinking in a way different from Spanish and it is hard.

And I don`t know what else to say, so good bye!

Post 9: Changes to my study program.

Hi everyone! Today post is about changes in my study program. I`m a vegetarian who studies Agronomy so first of all I must say: should be a consciousness objection for animal production subject. It is truly suffer.

Besides, study program has been discussion since I get in university. My classmates and I mostly focus the discussion in evaluation methods and how the academy education is teached. With the years the difference between what we want to learn and discuss, with what we actually learn in classes along the official career program is wide. For example, for the most of my classmates in early career field, pasture, and cattle were a vacation think without to much knowledge about nature cycles; everything was imaginary and theorical. People from country sides actually understand faster and easily than city persons. It`s why I think Agronomy should be an outdoor carrer which teach us in field with long fieldtrips; I have seen in the program two “intensive” subjects,  two or three weeks in field.

Now I´m finishing the career discussion is more about tools and knoledgements we want to develop before getting out university into laboral world. Last week my friends and I were discussing, precision agriculture which is teledetection and programmation for agricultural management should be mandatory! It`s a tool from our era to improves systems analyzing free information; it has to be teached. Is also important that careers, specially at University of Chile should have focus on national growth and development so careers impartation discussion is also a political, cultural and economic discussion.

Post 8: Personal Opinion

Hi! Today´s post is about personal opinions and I´m going to write about Rick and Morty. Rick and Morty are the names of a grandfather and his grandson; it is an American cartoon serie for adults. This cartoons are supposed to be inspirited into the movie “Back to the future”; the grandfather Rick is a scientific, the most intelligent man into the universe, also an alcoholic, egocentric, lonely man without emotional intelligence which moves to his daughter´s house and started to have intergalactic adventures mostly with his grandson Morty an insecure pre-adolescent, but also with his granddaughter, Summer and other secondary characters.

I like this cartoons for his black humor and sarcastic ways. Rick and Morty is always funny and makes me laugh. Thus it is a cartoon it is also family dramas and science; talks about multiverses, other species and different life forms. I recommended it as a classic, something in between “The Simpsons” and “Futurama”.

Spoiler alert. I always remember a chapter where Rick and Morty go to a planet where only men lives; it was a prehistoric place, they were all violence and hardly communicate. Later they discover the contrast, a women planet; pretty place, full of peace and with lots of understanding… it makes me wonder. Even though Rick and Morty is a carton, it remembers me: reality is perspective, everything is possible and nothing really matter.

If you have seen these cartoon comment on a chapter, it is always funny.

Post 7: Environmental conflicts

Hi! Today is “free topic” and because we are green careers we always want to discuss about the environment, focus on problems (and solutions). I´m a bit hippie, so I think nowadays humans are too far from nature and disrespectful about other forms and ways of life which has make us not to care about destroying the planet who give us life.

However, at earliest days of October ONU panel about climate change published a report warning about a dead line to avoid a climate disaster. In 2030 temperatures will rise 1,5 Celsius degrees up  to the pre-industrial temperatures which increases extreme drought, forest fires, floods and food scarcity probabilities. It could be prevent from happening by reducing carbon emissions to the half of 2010 carbon emissions in first time and then reduce them down to 0; for that big changes will be necessary: change energy supply systems, industries, transport and some aspects of massive consume. Change or die.

For me It is easy to do, but economic interests has always win and there is nothing who makes me think it is going to change; furthermore, some days after this report, U.S.A president, Donald Trump denies the warning and climate change effects, told his country is cleaner than ever and which the ones who pollute were Asia… So, I´m just shame of my specie and sorry to the other ones.

Post 6: Post graduate studies.

I haven`t even finish my carreer and already have to think about a post-grade! :C. 

At most of universities people can follow continue education at the last years of the carreer, a sort of 2 x 1 where you get both: your grade and post-grade. For me it`s too much because we come from 12 years of school plus 5 years (at least) of university and then more years of this continue education. Also amused me the relevance people gives to academy, It`s ridiculous being specialiced in something you haven`t done as a professional. Definitly do not like it, although I think practice makes the master, not the piece of paper you pay for.

I have given myself from 5 to 7 years to clear my mind and get into a post grade, because I want to develop myself in something that I`m sure to like about, and because the system demands specializations degrees. I do like flowers and gardens but it isn`t as meaningful as making food, so I`m not quite sure about it. At these 5-7 years I will see if there is something more engineering which interest me. Also, I want to do my post-grade at another country and live there for a while.

 

Post 5: My future job.

Next year I will be graduated and my future job has been a current thought. More than work I would like to be part of a meaning full project, doing things which can make a difference. I`ve been thinking becoming PRODESAL or INDAP at the near future; they act as consultant to little and medium agricultures helping them to improve their crops. Also I would like to develop myself at another country, as a life experience. Furthermore, I`ve think about a post grade at another country but first have to find my specialization to do so; I do like flowers and gardens but it isn`t as meaningful as making food, so I will see if there is something more engineering which interest me. I have given myself from 5 to 7 years to clear my mind and get into a post grade.

Now a days I`m looking for a professional practice, and have been interviewed by labs and exporting companies which are pretty much what agro practices are about. It is not my particular interest but is a necessary step to finish my career, so I have been very enthusiastic at those interviews but no one has contact me yet, even though that is my future job.

Post 4: Video games.

All started when I was 6 years old. My neighbors and I used to spend some time playing video games after school. I particularly remember Donkey kong, Mario Bros and Zelda. We play the last one very little; now I get that the game was too much for our understanding. The three games share the same adventure theme, were all something that we have never seen before and our mom´s get us snacks after playing a while. It was a great time! By the years my friends became continuous players, they have all the new consoles and games and also know special things to do into the games; in my case it was only something to do to have fun and share with my friends. Now I do not have much contact with video games, I do like playing Mortal Combat (ultraviolent fights), PES (football) or Mario Kart (races) amog others at my little cousin’s house, or with friends; I´m amazingly good at Call of duty wich is nothing like me (or isn´t?), as the name references it is military. And that’s my relation with video games, we keep distance but can enjoy together.

Post 3: Movies or films.

I really enjoy movies, and I like every type of movies including dramas, musicals, fiction or even anime. I like movies because they are art; combining good scenes, a sustainable history with a good script performance by a decent cast, the music is also important. Plus popcorn, why not love watching any movie, it would be a good excuse for popcorn. Even though I avoid watching horror movies, mostly because I´m a little sensitive about strong scenes and get nightmares, so I try to watch them daylight. “La meglio gioventù”, “V from Vendetta”, “Good bye Lenin” and are my favourites ones among others. I have also seen a lot of Argentinian movies and love them! “Martin (hache)”, “Un lugar en el mundo” and “La noche de los lápices” are some of the culte movies; in addition I like watching movies for kids and I volunteer to take my siblings to the cinema every time there is a kids film.  I do not have a favourite director, but I really admire those who are capable of create a different world or reality like George Lucas or Wes Anderson.

Post 2: The best concert I´ve ever attended

Hi! I´m kind holidays privated (because I have classes till January) so, I´m going to tell you about my best concert. It really wasn´t a concert, was many of them because I´m going to speak about a festival. I think it was January 2016 (or 2015), some university friends and I went to a massive event hostess by “La Fonda Permanente” at a Hippodrome in Independencia; we get there by another friend with a stand in there who gives us free tickets, free beers all night and also get us tickets to another entertainments (he was attending target practice). There was bands playing all the time on differents stages, and my friends and I were singing, dancing, running and playing all the afternoon and night, being happy and celebrating the moment because as usual we have extended classes by some political problem, so we haven´t celebrated properly Christmas, New Year or vacations as most of our friends, and obviously have a lot of energy retained. So, that was “my best concert”, like water in the desert.

Travels.

Every time I think about travel I remember a song extract which says that the important isn´t to get, the important is the road.  And that’s what I thing about travel.  I never mind the destiny, for me the expectation and excitation in traveling is for new things, for learn and understand lifestyles and cultures and for breaking barriers. I love to travel! I think there is a part of me in every place, when I´m traveling the present is more present than ever and is a present (gift, jajaja). I feel myself in perspective, and catch that things of mine that the places keep… quite an experience for the soul! I´ve planned to travel the most I can and to live and work somewhere more equitable and less sexist like Canada, Australia or Uruguay among others. Also I have think about a post grade somewhere else, but there is a long time; in short terms I´m planning going to Ecuador or Colombia, mostly because of the high biodiversity.

To write about

Hi! Here I`m again, you too.

At this new semester I would recommended  a new way to post about. I think it would be interesting to post about things that we see in classes. In my mind is something like seeing a short video, listening music or others in a half of the English hour and write about it at the other half.

Free posting

HI! Today is free blogging and I´m going to write about that thing which almost all we do when paper and pen are available: scribble. Personally I only scribble “in off”, meaning kind of not thinking and only worried about the strokes and the scribble by itself. I usually do it in classes, because my notebook is white, I’m distracted and also have a lot of colors at my pencilcase so getting lost scribbling at boring or exhausting classes is definitely the best option.

Even when scribble is mostly frowned upon there is said that it benefits memory and contrary to what most of people think it would help focusing. I´m not sure about it, but for me it is a relaxing thing to do and really enjoy it with colors ; also my favorite think about scribble is that I don’t need to know anything about draw so I recommended the activity. Badly drawing seal approval. Furthermore, now you can buy mandalas books and don´t even worry about scribble and only get into colors and paint. Also recommended if you enjoy colors as me.

Blogger Experience

Well, as I told at first post, this blog is part of an English signature at university, some work to help me and the class improving English. I´m not very sure it actually helps to do so, but at least is a innovating tool to make us write in English. Even when I´m not very comfortable, principally because I do not write as well as I like and I do that thing which Spanish people do translating sentences in Spanish and looking a little monkey ; I think blogging has been the funniest way to make us write, especially because it also make us interact by posting another’s classmates blogs.

Also, I have to say that at first I was complicated with the program (application, whatever) use, because I am not a technological person, I am very sure that I haven´t learned how to use the different tools and even don´t know how to personalize my blog, but I´m also not a stressful person so I just let it go and I don´t it care anymore.

Other note is that when I read others post I don´t truly know if it is well written and never know it because I´m not going to read them again.

Post 8

Hi! Coming back from strike I´m trying to remember my university schedule so I´m going to tell you about my favorite subject this semester: It has been Organic recycling; it is an elective subject about giving new uses to organic residues from industries and particulars (houses). In this subject we have learned how managing the residues in order to separate them from the real waste and give them new uses such as soil substrate or alternatives energies like “biol”, reducing the human level of contamination plus the added value to this new products ; also we have visualized the different levels of contamination/residues/waste among the country  with the specific and local way to manage it, so I found this subject very useful and practical ; It also goes in the way that I want to grow up as professional and human.

The subject is a lot of chemistry which is the difficult part besides the long investigation to the seminaries we have to present. At practical activities we went to two composting plants, to make a comparative in technology and treatments. That’s Organic recycling. J

A career-related website

HI! Today I am going to write about the internet and how I use it for my career. https://scielo.conicyt.cl/ is for me the most useful tool. The web page describes himself as a scientific library. Here is where I look for papers to my academicals research, I like it because I am not very technological and find this page really user friendly (there is no way you can miss), plus it does not have advertisements. I do not use it currently, only for work and it truly saves the bibliography.

To entertainment and a little bit of agro-culture I usually go to Netflix or TED and watch some documentaries about food production (very popular now a days in these platforms), these is something I do more often, principally because I pause the videos and see them along the week. The last thing I saw was an autobiographic movie: Temple Grandin, a woman with autism at USA who redesigns slaughterhouses to make them less stressful for the animals to be killed. Recommended.

About Climate Change

The phenomenon not much phenomenon, because Earth´s climate has changed throughout history; our current problem is about the velocity of this change as the result of human activities, pollution and over population (humans in conclusion). Global temperature rises, oceans warms, ice sheets are melting, glacials retreats, sea level rises and extreme weather events are more often.  Climate change is also known as global warming, literally means Earth is warming up as the result of excessive greenhouse effect gases accumulated in the atmosphere. So, talking about solutions: we need to drastically reduce the emission of these gases; forego fossil fuels and replace them with renewable sources of energy, consume less and be conscious about the objects of our consumption, eat smart (because agriculture is also responsible, principally by agrochemicals and production of meat) and birth control are some of the measures to be taken in order to decrease our negative impact.

Looking for the north

Back in 2014 I went backpacking to the north of Argentina with some friends. After travelling for some weeks ,  we went to Iruya, a village into the mountains whose only access is by crossing a river (there isn´t a bridge). A day after our arrival we met some Argentinean road friends with whom  we decided to make a trekking to San Isidro, another village even more hidden into the mountains. It was a hard path and we had to cross the river again. On our way back as it had started raining and the river had risen making crossing impossible we had to ask a local person for shelter ; we slept wet on a cold floor. The next morning, Pablo, the local guy who gave us shelter guided us to Pantipampa, another road to Iruya.
This is the picture that Pablo took us at the top of Pantipampa, after watching some wild horses and a condor from 5 meters of distance (awesome!). We were not condors but we were flying. I love this photo because it reminds me of the adventure in that beautiful place and the beautiful people I met.

Immigrants

Now a days technology has enabled posible not only communication and information around the world ; you can reach any place you want to (if you can afford it). While trying to understand the topic of immigration I have thought about almost every point of view; new policies implemented are a guvernment effort for better control and a subsequent better lifestyle, because people who gets into the country with permanence intentions needs to be taken care of as any native citizen (food, services, health, among others) and that is something to be regulate. But there is another matter as important as basic services: inclusion. Humans need to understand that we are all equal and that the Earth has no owner. It´s not only an economic issue but also about the borders on peoples minds.

My career

The first thing that I dreamed about being polyglot, weird for a 7 year old girl, but I´ve always been fascinated by laenguages and wanted to learn them all (I still do); an uncle taught me the specific word. While I was growing up I did not really worry about my future career, although I wanted to win a Nobel Prize, hopefully the literature one, but any other one was ok. I ended up at Agronomy trying to conjugate the lifestyle that I wanted to have with the things that I enjoy, it was clear for me that humanities do not give me the way of life I wiched for, so I went to the other way I had always symphatised with and loved: Nature. There are no regrets.

My Autobiography, short version.

Hi! I´m Angela Hernández, and this is my blog, some work to learn English. In order to introduce myself I must say: I was born in Santiago, Chile in the 90’s (93, not to feel that old). I studied at a Catholic school till 12 years old and then I moved to Rancagua for two years. Turning back to Santiago I studied at a public school and now I´m studying Agronomy. That´s the academy. Some other times I love knowing new places and living new experiences; traveling is definitely my favorite hobby but is not as usual as others, such as running or meditating, dancing, reading and listening to music. The resumé of my life till now and a little from myself, for more knowledge keep on this blog. Regards!

My favourite piece of technology

Hi!, talking about technology and things that millenials are supposed to like, I do realize that I do not really have any favorite piece of technology, which would mean that I like it, and it doesn`t, is just that technology is part of life as we know it. But, if I have to choose a common piece of technology it should be the camera, mostly because it documents and records images, so I find it useful. I  also enjoy looking at old pictures or records (not old ones too), it`s interesting how technology can turn into art by the right eye, thanks to a camera we have been able to appreciate movies, and images always complement well  even ornamentally.  So, even when I use a smartphone and computer daily, more than cameras I prefer the contribution of the latter ones and would rescue it from fire before the computer, kind of meaning my favorite one.
